Walter Schwartz

Walter Schwartz, 88, of Farmington, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at home, with his family at his side on Friday, (August 17, 2007). Born in Gymnich, Germany on November 24th 1918 to Regina (Berger) Schwartz and Herman Schwartz. Walter was a holocaust survivor, a successful businessman, loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Alice (Schoen) Schwartz; his daughters, Linda Rauch and her husband Bob and Susan Carlow and her husband David; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Carlow, Amanda Carlow, Melissa Rauch and Meredith Rauch and many nieces and nephews. In addition, he leaves two sisters, Hannah Neumann of California and Hilda Isdale of England, as well as a sister-in-law, Lori Schwartz of Avon and brother-in-law, Hal Schoen and his wife Lynne. Walter was predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Eric Schwartz. Walter came to the United States in 1949, after leaving Germany and living in Kenya, Africa for 10 years. He was a partner in Kosh-R-Best, a meat provision company, for 20 years. He was an avid chess and bridge player. He also enjoyed swimming and painting. He was very involved at Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 20th at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with internment in Tikvoh Chadoshoh Cemetary, Windsor, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh, Bloomfield, CT or a charity of your choice. Shiva will be observed at his home, Monday following the funeral through Wednesday evening.
