Toni (Sonia) (Hirshhaut) Mag

Toni (Sonia) Mag, 86, of West Hartford, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2007. She was born in Hartford on April 1, 1921 to the late Harry and Anna (Greenberg) Hirshhaut and lived most of her life in West Hartford and Newington. Toni was known for her dry sense of humor, fine fashion sense and ?telling it like it was?. She married Raymond Mag in 1942 and they lived a full life together until his death in 1992, just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. She so admired Raymond that she insisted on going by the name of Mrs. Raymond Mag to honor him and their marriage. Toni was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, West Hartford, a dedicated past President of its Sisterhood, and a Girl Scout Leader. She worked at Sears & Roebuck until her retirement and continued working as Executive Secretary to Rabbi Harold S. Silver of Congregation Beth Israel. Toni will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Frank Jezyk of New Hartford; her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Greg Strycharz of Westfield, MA; her daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Steve Burdick of Avon; her seven precious grandchildren: Sarah Flaherty, Beth Jezyk, Chris Strycharz, Rebecca Strycharz, Andrew Burdick, Kate Burdick and John Burdick, and her great grandson: Frankie Flaherty. Toni also leaves behind her twin brother Sanford (Buddy) Hirschhaut. A graveside funeral services will be held TODAY, Friday, November 16, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Jackson Street, Avon with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett of Temple Sinai, Newington officiating. Following the funeral, relatives and friends are welcome at Toni?s daughter Cathy?s home, 25 Garnet Hill Lane, Avon, until 5:00 PM.
