Thelma (Rodin) Shapiro

Thelma Shapiro, 83, of West Hartford, CT., wife of the late Donald J. Shapiro, died peacefully, Saturday, (June 25, 2011). She was born in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Morris and Lena (Greenberg) Rodin and had lived in Longmeadow, MA prior to moving to West Hartford four years ago. Thelma was an avid reader and loved gardening. She adored her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Fay deHaas and her husband Ernest of West Hartford, Rhonda Shevrin and her husband David of Cherry Hill. NJ and three grandchildren, David deHaas of West Hartford, Scott and Carly Shevrin of Cherry Hill, NJ; and her sister, Charlotte Greenbaum of Sarasota, FL. She was predeceased by her daughter, Debra Shapiro. The family wishes to thank the many doctors and medical staff of UConn Dialysis Center for their excellent care and kindness during the past four years. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Interim Health Care for their excellent care and their compassion. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, (June 28, 2011) at 12 p.m. at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT. Burial will follow at the Emanuel Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT. Shiva will be observed on Tuesday-Thursday at the home of Fay and Ernest deHaas, 4 Henley Way, West Hartford CT. 06117. Memorial donations may be made to the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT 06117 or UConn Dialysis Center, 230 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT 06032.
