Sylvia (Rosenblum) Tapper

Sylvia (Rosenblum) Tapper, 95, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Samuel Tapper and daughter of the late Dr. Joseph and Dora Rosenblum, died peacefully on Wednesday, (February 14, 2007) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1911, she was a graduate of New York University and studied for a year at Sorbonne University in Paris, France, where she received a Master’s Degree in French. In 1936 she married Attorney Samuel Tapper of New York, and the two later moved to West Hartford, where they remained married for 38 years until his death in 1974. She later resided in Pompano Beach, FL. for 28 years before moving back to West Hartford in 2002. Fluent in French and a lifelong lover of travel, reading, art, and culture, she visited such places as Israel, Egypt, China, Russia, Romania, and Scandinavia throughout her lifetime. In addition to her husband, Sylvia was predeceased by an infant son, Howard, a brother, Arnold Rosenblum, and a sister, Elaine Budnick. She leaves behind a loving family: Her son, Attorney Joseph Tapper and his wife Kathleen of Bloomfield; her daughter Ellen Tapper and her fiancé Michael Banks of Covina, CA; three grandsons, Daniel and his wife Doreen of Suffield, Jonathan and his wife Sandra of Roslindale, MA, and Jeffrey and his wife Lisa of Astoria, NY; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Tapper of Suffield and Kaliope Tapper of Astoria, NY; as well as a number of cousins and nephews. Her family would like to thank the Hebrew Home & Hospital of West Hartford for providing her with many years of comfort and care. Funeral services will be held at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford at 12 NOON on Friday, February 16, followed by burial in Beth Israel Cemetery in Hartford. Shiva will be observed at the home of Joseph and Kathleen Tapper, 12 Ivory Road, Bloomfield, beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, February 17, and 18, 2007. The family has asked that memorial donations be made to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice
