SCHINDELMAN, Sylvia (Zaslow) Schindelman, 77 years of age, of Albany Ave., West Hartford, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at home. She was the widow of Marc M. Schindelman. Born in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Salomon and Emma (Beer) Zaslow. Sylvia graduated from City College of the City University of New York and later went on to receive a Masters Degree. She taught in the West Hartford Public School System and at Central Connecticut State University. She was a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the American Society for Yad Vashem, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Holocaust Child Survivors of Greater Hartford, the World Jewish Congress, Phi Delta Kappa, the West Hartford Education Association, the CT Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Chai Society of Beth El Temple of West Hartford. Her interests included methods of delivering mathematics education, gender equity in the classroom setting, continuing the education of all people about the Holocaust, and her wonderful sons and their families. She leaves two sons, Simeon A. Schindelman and his wife Laura of Plymouth, MN, and Michael H. Schindelman and his wife Susan of Winchester, MA; her grandchildren, Derek J. Schindelman, Jared M. Schindelman, Elijah J. Schindelman and Joshua D. Schindelman; and her brother, Dave Zaslow and his wife Diane of New York, NY. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Extension, Avon with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at her home Thursday following the funeral.
