Sylvia (Bufferd) Greenspan Malamuth

Sylvia (Bufferd) Greenspan Malamuth, 101 years of age, of Boca Raton, FL, formerly of West Hartford, CT and Pompano Beach, FL, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 8, 2016. She was the widow of Solomon Greenspan and Solomon Malamuth. Born in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jennie (Laban) Bufferd, and the sister of the late Jack Bufferd, Aaron Bufferd, Ann Shulman and Rhoda Greenstein.

Before moving to Florida, Sylvia led a very active life as a most worthy grand matron of the Masonic Order of the Golden Chain and as a president of the Union of Orthodox Sisterhoods of America. In addition, she was a long term member of the Beth David Synagogue in West Hartford and of the Hartford chapter of B’nai Brith. Her many other interests included playing the piano and singing Yiddish songs from her childhood, golfing in Boca Raton, and playing mahjong with her many friends.

She was predeceased by her son, Burton A. Greenspan. She leaves her son, Marshall Greenspan and his wife Sheila of Fairfield, CT, and her daughter-in-law, Jane Greenspan Jacobs and her husband, Norman Jacobs, of Boca Raton, FL. She also leaves six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren: Emanuel Greenspan and Puky Wan with Priya; Howard and Carrie Greenspan with Madison and Mia; Shelley and Jonathan Dreizen with Melanie, David and Samantha; Steven and EJ Greenspan with Michael, Robert, Rachel and Eva; Jill and Jeffrey Ziplow with Scott, David, and Andrew; and John and Aime Greenspan with Anna and Brian.

In addition she leaves her step daughter, Linda Malamuth Erman and her husband, Kurt, with their children: Scott and Nancy Erman with Madison, Evan and Josh; Kenneth Erman with Daniel, David and Nicole; and Jill Levine with Jennifer and Andrew.

She also leaves several beloved nieces and nephews and her devoted caretakers, Jennie Craig along with Georgia and Norma.

Graveside funeral services with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 13, in the Beth David Synagogue Cemetery located at 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT. Memorial donations may be made to the Burton A. Greenspan Memorial Fund at the Hartford Jewish Federation or to the Jewish Senior Services of Bridgeport.
