Sylvia (Askinas) Lasker

Sylvia (Askinas) Lasker, 96, of West Hartford, wife of the late I. William Lasker, died Thursday (August 27, 2009). Born in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jennie (Sachs) Askinas. She was a Life member of Hadassah and executive board member of ORT; and a former employee of The Emanuel Synagogue, West Hartford. She leaves a son, Richard Lasker and his wife Bonnie of West Hartford; a daughter, Elaine Gold and her husband Burton of West Hartford; six grandchildren: Steven and Ellen Gold, Bill Gold and his fiance Kim Belleau; Hyla and Greg Giordano, and Joshua, Jeffrey and Brian Lasker; four great grandchildren: Sam and Ben Gold, and Sydney and Jake Giordano. She was predeceased by her sister, Irene Zandan and her brother, Sydney Askinas. Special thanks to the staff at the Hebrew Home & Hospital, especially Pearl Palmer and Salomey Ademako. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Friday, August 28, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Garden Street, Hartford. A memorial service will be observed at 85 King Philip Dr., West Hartford 06117 following interment until 5 p.m.; Saturday after 8 p.m.; and Sunday 12-9 p.m. Also Saturday and Sunday at 10 Neptune Ct., New London 06320. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hebrew Home & Hospital, 1 Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford 06117.
