Sylvia (Sobsey) Halem

Sylvia (Sobsey) Halem, 88, of Chatfield Dr., West Hartford, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009 at home. Born in Patterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Avrum and Ida (Anchell) Sobsey. Sylvia was an artist, a model, and child actress on the Yiddish stage. A founding member of Ellington Ridge Country Club, she was also a past member of Congregation Beth Israel, West Hartford. She leaves her husband, Dr. Saul Halem; two sons: Stephan Halem and his wife Arlene, and Ronald Halem and his wife Rosanna of Mt. Kisco, NY; and four granddaughters. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 8, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment following in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
