Sylvia (Freelander) Corwin

Sylvia Freelander Corwin, 80, of Bloomfield, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009. She was cherished and loved dearly by her husband of 56 years Fred who was always by her side. Everyone who met Sylvia recognized her zest for life. She treasured people and their stories and always listened and learned. She carried that love of people into her teaching career, where she taught physical and health education in the Bloomfield and Hartford school systems for over 30 years, and at Beth Israel religious school for 15 years. Sylvia made friends wherever she went: in school, in art class, in her community, and in the organizations that she belonged to. She was involved in Hartford?s Postponing Sexual Involvement program for teens, Temple Beth Israel?s S.A.G.E., and always supported local charities and causes. She leaves behind her husband Fred, daughters Debbie Weinstein and her husband Mark, and Judy Ankerman and her husband Marc, her sister Jean Mintz, and five grandchildren: Scott, Allison, Jordan, Cody and Kelsey who she adored. Funeral services will be held on Monday September 7, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs and Cantor Pamela Siskin officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. Following the interment, the family invites friends back to their home. Memorial donations can be made to Congregation Beth Israel, West Hartford 06119 or to the charity of your choice.
