Susan N. Smith

Susan is survived by her brother Paul Smith and her two sons and families: Her son Avi Smith-Rapaport, his wife Erica and their sons Samm and Maxx. And her son Tahl Rapaport and his wife Alexandra and their children Elise and Cyrus.

Susan was born on May 17, 1950, in Malden Massachusetts where she lived through High School. She went off to college in 1968 to the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she received both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology, and she remained a resident of Connecticut for the rest of her life. She and her husband Tzvi raised their 2 sons Avi and Tahl in Woodbridge.

Susan was a Hillel Director at the University of Bridgeport and from there, went to Yale University as the Director of the children with epilepsy study. She was always active and involved in her local synagogue and the New Haven Federation.

Susan wore many titles but perhaps the one she loved the most was Savta (grandma). She was very involved in the lives of her 4 grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by many, but most by her grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at Beth El Temple in West Hartford, CT, on Friday morning at 10:30. She will be interred at Beth Hillel Cemetery in East Granby, CT after the funeral service. Due to the Sukkot holiday, Shiva will commence on Monday evening October 5 at 6:00pm and will be held at the home of Avi & Erica Smith-Rapaport in West Hartford, CT.

Shiva will also be held at the home of Susan’s brother, Paul Smith, at Woodland Park, NJ on Monday evening, October 5, at 7:00pm.
