Steven (R.) Weber

On September 16, Steven Weber, 69, of West Hartford, slipped away while at the shore on his favorite couch, watching his favorite team, the NY Yankees. Born November 23, 1942 to Helen (Schrieber) and Julius Weber in Orange, NJ, Steve grew up in Verona, NJ as the older brother to sisters Susan Kobitz (Wellington, FL) and Bonnie Glazer (West Hartford, CT). Steve began playing the saxophone in the 5th grade and quickly became a member of the marching band, which enabled him to earn a college scholarship. Upon graduation from the University of Baltimore, Steve was soon on his way to Hartford in 1967 for the “perfect job.” It was then when he began his life’s work. Steve started his own business in 1971, Compass, Inc., which was a leader in the recruiting and programming development business. Steve subsequently started Programming Resources Company as he saw the opportunity to leverage his contacts and the computer programming community around Hartford. PRC branched out to include insurance software development and was incredibly successful. Programming Resources Company was sold to Equifax in 1994, and Steve stayed on for a few years before “retiring” and pursuing business interests akin to his entrepreneurial spirit. He was a doer - no grass ever grew under his feet, he was always on the move, whether by car, foot, or bicycle. Steve was a people person - he demanded perfection and got it; he was private and individual, but above all, loving, kind and generous. Steve never said no to anyone who needed help and many would say he changed their lives. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 35 years Betty; his son Jay and wife Amy (Latour) of Charlotte, NC; and his grandchildren Evan and Alexa Weber, whom he adored and made every effort to see as often as he could. Steven also leaves behind his sisters, Susan and Bonnie (Jeffrey); and many other loving nieces and nephews. Steven leaves behind too many close friends to list, each of whom would have their own story to tell, their own moment when Steve surprised them with something wonderful and special, or when he was simply available to listen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Avenue, West Hartford. Services will be held at his home from 5 to 8. The family will also be receiving friends 7 to 9:30 Saturday and Sunday.
