Sonia (Miller) Strouse

Sonia Miller Strouse, 82 years of age, of New Milford, formerly of Bloomfield, passed away Sunday, (June 27, 2010). Born in Norwich, CT, she was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Kenig) Miller. Sonia taught at the Burnside Elementary School in East Hartford during the early 1950s, as well as being a substitute teacher in the Bloomfield School system during the 1960s. In 1973, she and her late husband Charles opened and operated Wintonbury Hardware in Bloomfield until retiring in 1998. Sonia also volunteered teaching English to immigrants during the 80s and 90s. She leaves her beloved family, sisters Doris (Wechter) and husband Bob, and Eleanor (Chaikind) and husband Leonard; son Joseph and wife Ilene Gray; daughter Sandra Singco and husband Gilbert; grandson, Neil Singco; granddaughters Kelly Singco, and Anna Beroll and husband David. Funeral Services will be held graveside on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beth Israel Cemetery, 119 Affleck St., Hartford. A memorial period will be observed from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, June 30 and Thursday July 1 at the Chestnut Grove Retirement Community, 200 Chestnut Grove Road, New Milford, Apt 26.
