Sidney (Abraham) Kaplan

Sidney Abraham Kaplan born on October 15, 1908 died on Thursday, (January 06, 2011). He was the son of Isadore and Rachel (Blumenthal) Kaplan and husband for 70 years of Frances Shapiro Kaplan, who predeceased him. He lived a long and fulfilling life. He leaves his daughters, Judith Kulick and Deborah Polivy, son-in-law, Richard Polivy, grandchildren David and Kellie Kulick, Rachel Kulick and Morgan Schwartz, David Polivy and Pam Jahnke, and Rebecca Polivy and her fiancé, Omer Tamuz. He also leaves four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Myron and Shalom, and his sisters, Estelle Adelberg and Amelia Gross. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Etta Suisman and Elizabeth Kaplan. Sidney spent 47 years at The Hartford Courant starting as a clerk and retiring as Advertising Director. The Courant was an important part of his life and he was well regarded in the newspaper world. His greatest pleasure was “giving” even when he had very little. He adored his family, golf and Judaism. He attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania but did not graduate because of the Depression. His family wants to thank the staff on two South of the Hebrew Home, especially Salomey Adomako, Ursala Ayala and Mary Damotta, who were all just wonderful to him. Funeral services will be held Sunday, (January 9, 2011) at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein’s Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbis James Rosen and Stanley Kessler officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed on Sunday following the interment at 24 High Hill Road, Bloomfield; Monday at 7 p.m. at 274 Conestoga Way, Glastonbury and again on Tuesday at 24 High Hill Road, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sid’s memory can be made to the Hebrew Home and Hospital or Beth El Temple both of which he loved.
