Shirley Morin

May 5, 1935 — January 12, 2026

Shirley (Sumberg) Morin, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 12, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Shirley was a graduate of Classical High School. With a lifelong interest in science and medicine, she attended Mary Brooks Junior College in Boston, where she trained as a medical secretary. She later returned to Worcester where she worked for doctors, and it was there that she met Marshall Morin, also of Worcester. The two were married in 1957.

Returning to the workforce after three children, Shirley and Marshall built a successful Tupperware business, which brought them to Connecticut in 1971. Following their retirement, they moved to the Poconos and then Florida. After Marshall’s passing in 2002, Shirley lived in Maryland before returning to Connecticut, both moves bringing her closer to her children. Having seen and lived in many places, she loved New England, especially in Autumn.

Shirley loved to travel. She and Marshall visited Europe and the British Isles many times, and later she made frequent trips to Israel to visit her daughter. One of her greatest pleasures was sitting outside coffee shops in Jerusalem, happily “people watching”. Shirley loved meeting new people and never hesitated to strike up a conversation with a stranger, often to the embarrassment of her children.

She was also gifted with her hands, creating intricate needlepoint pieces, and she took great joy in cooking for others. Shirley was known for making the world’s best chocolate mousse and never met a piece of dark chocolate she didn’t like. She doted on her grandson Jon, and in recent years, her great-granddaughter Penny was the light of her life.

Shirley is survived by her three children: Elizabeth, Gary, and Nancy; grandson Jon, and great-grandchildren Penny and Sonny.
