Shirley (Kingsly) Meisel-Millstein

Shirley K. Meisel, born January 12, 1920, in Brooklyn, NY, beloved wife of the late Robert Meisel, died Monday, (February 6, 2006) at Northshore University Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed away surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Meisel is survived by her children, Carla and Stephen Schwartz of Colchester and Iris Kohn of Woodmere, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Adam and Robin Schwartz, Hy and Remy Schwartz, Danielle Kohn and Robert Kohn. She also leaves five great-grandchildren, Maddy, Nell, Ava, Teddy and Spencer, each of them blessed to know her. She leaves a brother, Dr. Sanford Kingsly of Short Hills, NJ. She was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Martin Kingsly. A longtime member of Congregation B’nai Jacob of Brooklyn, NY, and past president of its Sisterhood, Mrs. Meisel was active in many Jewish charities, both in Brooklyn and later in East Rockaway, which she called home since 1995. Mrs. Meisel had a special zest for life, and remained vivacious, active and engaged in her community until her recent illness. A deeply caring parent and grandparent, she considered her two lovely daughters to be among her life’s greatest achievements. All who new her will greatly miss her. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, at Congregation Ahavath Achim in Colchester with Rabbi Kenneth Alter officiating. Arrangements will be managed by Weinstein Mortuary of West Hartford. Shiva will be observed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Schwartz, 692 Norwich Avenue, Colchester, through Sunday morning, February 12. Donations may be made in her memory to Congregation Ahavath Achim, or to the Northshore University Medical Center, care of Dr. Vincent Vinciguerra.
