Shirley ((Zieky)) Marholin

Shirley J. (Zieky) Marholin, of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Monday, May 14, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Arnold Buddy’ Marholin. Born in Hartford, CT she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nellie (Schuman) Zieky. Shirley can best be described by the Sinatra song entitled, “I Did it My Way”. She was a perfectionist and she liked having things done her way. She was a loving and thoughtful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend who cared deeply about her family, her friends and her community. Shirley graduated Weaver High School in 1946 and shortly thereafter she met Bud Marholin, the love of her life. She loved being Mrs. Marholin, and she was proud of the family furniture business, Marholin Lane in West Hartford. She was accomplished in her own right. In 1967 she graduated from UCONN with a B. S. in Political Science. She then obtained a teaching certificate from CCSC. In later years, she was a real estate agent in West Hartford and an interior designer in Florida where she furnished many model apartments and condominiums. Shirley was active in Hartford Art School Auxiliary. She was a member of Tumble Brook Country Club and a former member of Congregation Beth Israel. Shirley leaves her daughter, Debra M. Glassman and her husband, Richard, of West Hartford, CT; her beloved granddaughter, Elizabeth Flanders and her husband, Craig; her beloved great-grandchildren, Samantha and Caroline Flanders; In addition to her husband, Shirley was predeceased by her brother Calvin Zieky.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in the Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery, 51 Jackson Street, Avon, CT with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the West Hartford home of Debra and Richard Glassman. A service will be held at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Beth Israel, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford or Jewish Family Services. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
