Shirley Brody

Shirley K. Brody, 98, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 15th, 2026, surrounded by family and her wonderful caregivers.

Shirley was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 30th, 1927. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah, and loved cooking, shopping, and spending time with family.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 74 years David Brody, her parents Samuel and Molly Kling and sister Ruth Blecher.

Shirley and David moved from New York to Hartford, Connecticut in 1961. A few years later, they made West Hartford their home and raised their three sons there. They traveled the world together, and enjoyed volunteering at the Hebrew Home and UConn Health Center. They spent their retirement years between Connecticut and Florida, where they were heavily involved in their community.

She is survived by her sons Rick Brody (Maxine), Mitchell Brody (Marilyn) and Steven Brody (Marci); her seven grandchildren: Seth, Lauren (Matt), Marc (Sarah)Stephanie (Mike),Lisa (Kevin),Rachel (David)Samantha (Curtis)and five great-grandchildren: Crew, Dean, Emma, Dezi and Sutton.

A funeral service will be held for family and friends on Monday, January 19th at Weinstein Mortuary at 12 PM. Shiva will be observed at Mitchell and Marilyn Brody’s home on Monday, January 19th from 7-9 PM. Should friends desire, contributions can be made to Beth El Synagogue in West Hartford in Shirley’s memory.
