POLES, Seymour N. Poles, 86, of Magnolia Hill, West Hartford died Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Hartford Hospital. Born in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late Isaac and Bertha (Trachtenberg) Poles. Seymour served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. After the War, he returned to Hartford and co-founded with his father, Poles Syrup. Under Seymour, the business expanded and became Poles Syrup & Paper Supply Co. He owned and operated the business until he retired in the mid 1980’s. Seymour was a past president of the Young Peoples League in Hartford, a past president of Probus Club in Hartford, and a 50 plus year member of Level Lodge No. 137 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford and a member of the Temple?s Mens Club. He loved nature and was an avid fisherman, gardener and antique lover. He also loved books and was an avid reader. He leaves his wife, Fay (Kleiman) Poles; his son, James S. Poles of Washington, DC; his daughter, Barbara Goldsher and her husband Allan of Tewksbury, MA; and his two grandchildren, Melissa and Evan Goldsher. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed Wednesday following the funeral, at his home, 43 Magnolia Hill, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036 or to the Lahey Clinic, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805 or to Probus Club, c/o Bruce Stanger, 433 South Main Street, Suite 112, West Hartford 06110.
