Seymour (H.) Gottlieb

Seymour H. Gottlieb, 86 years of age, of Avon, formerly of New Britain, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at John Dempsey Hospital. Born in Meriden, he was the son of the late Jacob and Rebecca Gottlieb. He was a US Army veteran World War II receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He graduated from the University of Connecticut and went on to become a partner in the family business, Goldberg?s Department Store in New Britain. With his late brother-in-law, Jack Goldberg, they transformed the business into Security Uniforms. In 1988 Seymour’s son, Ross D. Gottlieb joined the business and Seymour retired in 1995. He was a former head of the City of New Britain Parking Commission, and past president of the Farmington Woods Home Owners Association. He was also a member of the former Temple B’nai Israel of New Britain. He leaves his wife, Shirley (Goldberg) Gottlieb; his children, William H. Gottlieb and his wife Ruth Friedman of Bellevue, WA, Jan R. Shabot of Palm Beach, FL, and Ross D. Gottlieb and his wife Ilyse of Farmington; and his grandchildren, Jeremy Gottlieb, Molly Gottlieb, Jordan Shabot, and Benjamin Shabot. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Marshal Press officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain. A memorial period will be observed at his home, 35 Conifer Lane, Avon, Monday following the interment through Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford 06492 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
