Selma (Seavey) Nirenstein, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7th. She lived a long, productive life. She was born in Portland, Maine, grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts, and lived in Colchester, Connecticut since the mid 1950s. She was a graduate of Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts and taught Kindergarten as well as working as a reading assistant and substitute teacher. She also worked at Hartford Steamboiler.
Selma volunteered in elementary school in later years, and loved participating in a high school life course. She also volunteered to do taxes for people at the senior center for a number of years. Selma was a member of the Ahavath Achim Synagogue. She was an avid participant in many Colchester Senior Center activities and cherished her many friends there!
Selma was predeceased by her adored husband,Morris Walter Nirenstein as well as her youngest daughter, Randi Lee Goldberg. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was so proud of all of us! She is survived by her daughter, Bea Norman and son-in-law, Tom, daughter Ruth Hollm and son-in-law Bob, and special friend Judy Scott, who she considered an extra daughter! Also, Her grandson David Norman-Schiff and wife Annie, and their beloved daughter, Eve Shana, granddaughter Rachel Norman, grandson Joshua Hollm, and Randi’s husband, Alan.
The funeral service will be at Ahavath Achim Synagogue at 11:00 Sunday, November 9th in Colchester. Luncheon will follow.
