Sara A. Rulnick, 99, of Rockville, MD, formerly of West Hartford, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at The Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Max and Freda Forman of Revere Beach, MA, where she lived until moving to Hartford in 1936 to marry Morris E. (Moe) Rulnick, her beloved husband of 63 years, who predeceased her in April 2000. Sara graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University with a Bachelors of Arts degree, taught in the Hartford School System until the birth of her first child, and continued as a substitute teacher for several years thereafter. Sara was a founding member of Beth El Temple in West Hartford. She was a Sisterhood president, a member of the Board of Trustees and served on numerous committees. She also taught the first adult Bat Mitzvah class. Beth El was a second home to Sara and Moe, who was a past president of the Temple. They were observant Jews, participating to the fullest in all that Beth El had to offer. Many of their lifelong friendships were cultivated as a result of their many hours spent at Beth El. Sara leaves two sons, Marshall A. Rulnick, CPA, and his wife, Sandra, of Bloomfield, and Rabbi Arthur D. Rulnick and his wife, Dr. Adrienne, of Rockville, MD, grandchildren Deborah Harris and her husband, David, of Modiin, Israel, Aaron Rulnick and his wife, Alisa, of Potomac, MD and Jonathan Rulnick and his wife, Devorah, of Kibbutz Kramim, Israel and great-grandchildren Talya Harris, Yossi Harris, Jacob Rulnick, Lily Rulnick, Elye Rulnick, Eitan Rulnick & Aviya Rulnick. She was predeceased by her sisters Rita Pollack and Celia Forman. The family wishes to extend its appreciation to Eva Barclay and Shirley Bryan for their compassionate care and total devotion to Sara during her last three years in West Hartford. It also thanks the staff of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville, MD for making the last 2-1/2 years of Sara’s life the best they could be. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford, with Rabbi James Rosen, Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler, and Cantor Joseph Ness officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth El Cemetery in Avon, after which the family will receive family and friends at Beth El Temple. Shiva will be observed at 22 High Wood Road in Bloomfield Thursday 7-9pm, Friday 1-4pm, Saturday, 7-9pm and Sunday through Tuesday from 1-4pm and 7-9pm. Morning minyans will be at Beth El Temple and evening minyans will be at 7:30pm at 22 High Wood Road in Bloomfield.
