Sandra Rome

Sandra Schwartz Rome, 90, of West Hartford and Old Saybrook, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, due to complications from congestive heart failure and ovarian cancer.

In her earlier years, Sandra was a beloved nursery school teacher at Temple Emanuel, where she left a lasting impact on her students. Even after retiring, she was fondly remembered by many. However, her greatest joy came from her family.

Sandra is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, Jerald Rome, her son Jonathan Rome (Fern), and daughter Randi Warren (John). She was predeceased by her daughter Stephanie Rome.

Sandra was the proud grandmother of Robert (Brittany), Zachary (Alyssa), Joshua (Carly), Samantha Pollack (Adam), Hannah Rome, and Meredith. She was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren: Levi, Easton, Solomon, Zinnia, Milton, Wells, Abram, Silas Rome, Jonah, Sadie, Lucy Pollack, and Jacob.

An elegant woman with a love for life's simple pleasures, Sandra cherished moments at her beach house, watching sunsets with Jerry and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid bridge player, a lover of Scrabble, and kept close friendships that spanned her entire life.

Sandra’s family and friends will deeply miss her, especially Jerry, who was the love of her life.

Funeral services will be held at Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, on Thursday, June 26, at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon, CT. After the graveside service, mourners are invited to join the family at Beth El Synagogue, West Hartford.
