Samuel Podnetsky

Samuel Podnetsky, 101 years of age, of Bloomfield, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Lina (Gross) Podnetsky and the late Evelyn (Glanz) Rosenblatt Podnetsky. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Charles and Dora (Eisen) Podnetsky. He graduated in 1929 from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in business. Sam was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during World War II, serving for three years in England, Belgium and France. He was a 67 year member of Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford, and a member of Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield. In 1990 he published a memoir, ?The Gargoyles?. An avid gardener and grandfather, he is survived by his three children, Rabbi James E. Ponet and his wife Elana of New Haven, Ann Abramson and her husband Gil of Baltimore, MD, and Richard Rosenblatt and his wife Mary of Newton, MA; and seven grandchildren, David Ponet, Daniella Ponet, Avital Woods and her husband Timothy, Shulamit Ponet, Alissa Abramson-Densky and her husband Lee Densky, Ari Abramson, and Max Rosenblatt. He also leaves many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. He was predeceased by his six sisters, Rachel Neiditz, Blanche Rosenbaum Fox, Miriam Goldberg, Hannah Wise, Frances Arenson, and Hilda Greenberg. Funeral services will be held TODAY, August 6, 2008 at 11:30 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Hartford. A memorial period will be observed at his home, Wednesday following the funeral.
