Ruth (B. Shifreen) Schweitzer

Ruth B. (Shifreen) Schweitzer, 98, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Attorney, Abraham A. M. Schweitzer, died on Monday, (December 5, 2005) at Hartford Hospital. She was born on August 15, 1907 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Samuel and Dora (Tager) Shifreen. Ruth resided in West Hartford for over 70 years. Ruth married Abraham in 1929 and they shared over 40 happy years of marriage before Abraham predeceased her in 1970. They were avid art and antique collectors. Ruth worked as a lab technician in Kings County Hospital before marriage and was a Secretary/Receptionist for Attorney Schweitzer’s law Firm after marriage. She is survived by a son, Attorney Dwight Schweitzer of Miami, FL; a daughter, Natalie (Tina) Schweitzer of West Hartford; three grandsons, Aaron Schweitzer of Granby, Allen Schweitzer of Milton, MA and Alexander Schweitzer of Miami, FL; two grandaughters, Elizabeth Schweitzer of London, England and Michele Schweitzer of Milton, MA; a sister-in-law, Rhoda Shifreen of West Hartford; nephew Dr. Steve Shifreen and his wife, Julie, of West Hartford; several other nieces, nephews and cousins of California, Florida and New York. Ruth was predeceased by her son, Lewis Schweitzer; a brother Seymour Shifreen and a sister, Jeannette Messinger. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. in the Silberman Chapel of Temple Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Hartford. Memorial Donations can be made in Ruth’s name to American Heart Association. All arrangements by Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
