Ruth (Gersten) Rome

Ruth (Gersten) Rome, of Craigmoor Rd., West Hartford widow of Sidney A. Rome died Sunday (September 30, 2007). She was born in Tariffville, the daughter of the late Samuel and Celia (Kaufman) Gersten. She was a member Emanuel Synagogue, a life member of Hadassah, a member of Tumble Brook Country Club, and a contributor and member of many philanthropic organizations. She is survived by two daughters, Lois R. Kunian and her husband, Stephen of Boston, MA, Ellen G. Rome of Portland, ME; a brother, Aaron L. Gersten of West Hartford; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Sandick of West Hartford, Mrs. Anne Goldfield of West Hartford, Mrs. Edith Scott of New York City, NY; three grandchildren, David M. Kunian and his wife, Renee Bigalow of New Orleans, Andrew J.C. Kunian of Los Angeles, CA; Samantha Saturley of New York City, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Judge Maurice Gersten, Charles Gersten, Harold Gersten, Judge Joseph Gersten, Raymond Gersten; and her sisters, Ethel Liss, Dora Bailey, Sara Sparr, and Esther Spiegelman. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m. at the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford with burial in The Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. A memorial period will be observed at her home Tuesday following the funeral through Wednesday afternoon.
