Ruth (Eisenberg) Case

Ruth Case, 93 , widow of Milton Case, died Monday, (July 18, 2011). She lived in Bloomfield for many years, before moving to West Hartford in 2000. Raised in Willimantic, the daughter of Benjamin and Florence Eisenberg, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Connecticut. She was a longtime social worker, first at Jewish Family Service, and later in the Department of Mental Retardation, State of Connecticut. During her tenure there, she originated a venture called the Respite Program. It allowed parents to have a needed break from the demanding responsibility of caring for children with special needs. In the final two and a half years of her life, she was a contented resident of St. Mary Home, where she received excellent care. Both staff and patients appreciated her for her vivaciousness. She had the capacity to tune into her fellow residents in their various states of disability. She would socialize with them and playfully cajole them. Ruth leaves three children: Linda Case of Wethersfield, Leslie Case of West Hartford, and David Case, and his wife Mary Campbell, of Great Barrington, Mass. Also, six grandchildren: Matthew Case-Wolf of Cromwell and partner Debra Borho; Rachel Case of Portland, Ore.; Johanna Case, Benjamin Case, Ethan Case, Tara Gadarowski and son Bailey, all of Great Barrington. She also leaves her brother Marvin Eisenberg and his wife Alice of South Windsor; their children Susan Schmidt, Deborah Eisenberg, Steven Eisenberg, and Judith Rosenfield; and their respective families. Additionally she leaves a devoted aide and friend, Laura Betts of Manchester. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m., TODAY at Beth Hillel Cemetery in East Granby with Rabbi Yosef Wolvovsky officiating. She will be buried alongside her husband Milton, to whom she was married for 57 years. Shiva will be held this afternoon at the home of Leslie Case. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Hartford Stage Company; or Theatre Works.
