Rubin Goldstein

Rubin Goldstein of West Hartford, CT, beloved husband of Sylvia (Galitzer) Goldstein, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Born on March 29, 1933 in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Sam and Rachel “Ray” (Faier) Goldstein.

Rubin was a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard University, where he earned his PhD in Physics. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He taught at U.C. Berkeley, California, and was a research scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York, and Combustion Engineering in Connecticut. He enjoyed chess, softball, basketball, bicycling, and classical music.

In addition to his devoted wife of 60 years, he leaves his three loving daughters, Lori Jean Goldstein and her husband, William Carter, of Denver, CO; Susan May Goldstein of Irvine, CA; and Pamela Joy Goldstein and her husband, Michael Gefers, of Somerville, MA; his brother, Murray Goldstein and wife Esther Goldstein, of Boynton Beach, FL; his cherished grandson, Noah-Quinn Goldstein-Gefers; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington, CT, with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment follows in the Temple Sinai Memorial Park. Following interment, the family will receive relatives and friends in Temple Sinai’s Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rubin Goldstein may be made to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA., MAZON the Jewish Response to Hunger,or a charity of one’s choice.
