Robert (M.) Cohen

COHEN, Robert M. Cohen, 53, of Overhill Road, West Hartford, died Friday, April 28, 2006 at home with his family at his side. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Abraham and Sarah (Gersh) Cohen. In 1977 Bob graduated from Brandeis University, and he received a PhD in artificial intelligence from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught business at Boston University before he went to work for United Technologies Research Center. Recently he switched over to Pratt & Whitney. He was a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford, a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Temple and former co-chair of the Temple’s Ritual Committee. For many years, Bob led the Congregation in prayer on the High Holidays and throughout the year. He set a high standard for Torah and Purim Megillah reading and loved teaching others his craft. His love of music and Jewish practice inspired many people. He leaves his wife, Ellen (Treu) Cohen; two daughters, Ariella and Sarah Cohen; and a brother, Alan D. Cohen of Cleveland, OH. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen and Cantor Joseph Ness officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. Shiva will be observed at his home, 24 Overhill Road, West Hartford. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan -Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10021.
