Robert "Bob" Lappen

Robert “Bob” Lappen, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Rohrlick) Lappen for 58 years. An army veteran who served in Panama during the Korean War, he graduated with an Associates Degree in Business from Hillyer College. Bob successfully owned and operated a family business, Beacon Furniture, a staple in Hartford for over 60 years, before retiring in 2011. He was an avid reader who tore through historical perspectives on World War II and enjoyed hobbies that included sailing and art collecting. He was also a loyal fan of the NY Giants and UConn basketball. Born on May 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Evelyn Lappen. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his loving family, a son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Lisa Lappen of Simsbury and a daughter and son-in-law Lori and Edward Gaines of Colts Neck, NJ; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Amanda and Andrew of Colts Neck, NJ. He also leaves a sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Harry Lane of West Hartford and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Elaine and Harvey Ofshay of West Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. A private service led by Rabbi Dena Shaffer was held on Dec. 31, 2012 at Weinstein Mortuary. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice .
