Robert "Bob" Goodman passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025 with his family by his side. He had a wonderful personality, an incredible singing voice and a smile that lit up the room. He devoted his life to family, who loved him very much, and had a special unbreakable bond with his grandchildren (his Benjamin and Matty). He was also a fiercely loyal friend to many. He enjoyed traveling, going to horse races, having egg creams, watching any sport he could (beginning with his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers and ending with his UConn women’s basketball team) and seeing his grandchildren every chance he could.
Mr. Goodman was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1935 to Philip and Florence Goodman. He lived in Brooklyn and attended James Madison High School. After high school graduation, he joined the United States Army, spending time in Fort Bliss, Texas and Germany. When he returned home, he earned a degree in Business from Brooklyn College.
Mr. Goodman started his professional career, traveling and living all over the country, as a salesman. He eventually landed in Hartford, CT while working in the garment centers of New York City and Boston. It was in Hartford where he met the love of his life, Nancy. Together they traveled and enjoyed life to the fullest, always coming back to their roots in West Hartford. He was an active member of Beth El Temple in West Hartford, as well of the JCC and Suburban swim club. Later in life, Bob and Nancy spent their winters in Florida, moving between Boca Raton, Del Ray Beach and Boynton Beach. He loved the warm weather, sitting by the pool (in the shade), watching the horse races and playing golf.
After Nancy passed, he spent his final years at Waterstone on High Ridge in Stamford, CT so he could be close to his son, daughter in law and grandchildren. He was also cared for by the wonderful aides at Osborn, especially his best friend, Iggy.
Mr. Goodman was predeceased by his wife, Nancy; his brother, Herbert and his sister in law, Mollie. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey and his wife, Beth, two grandchildren: Benjamin and Matthew, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will take place at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson Street in Avon, CT on June 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to: Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117 or the National Kidney Foundation, 3000 Whitney Ave #121, Hamden, CT 06518 or https://www.kidney.org/
