Richard Kenneth Greenberg

Richard Kenneth Greenberg, 81, of Fanwood, New Jersey, formerly of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed peacefully on September 26, 2026, surrounded by his family, following a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Greenberg; his stepdaughters, Rayna Segelman and Tovah Segelman Spring and her husband, Carl Spring; his twin grandsons, Caleb and Caden; his brother-in-law, Howard Siegel; his nephew, Adam Siegel and his wife, Kimberly Siegel; and his “little brother,” Jerry Rappaport. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Sara Greenberg, and his sister, Barbara Siegel.

Richard was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and Boston University School of Law.

In 1970, Richard joined the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office, where he served as an Assistant Attorney General and tax attorney for 33 years.

Retirement did not mean slowing down for Richard. He continued his passion for learning and teaching, teaching business law and ethics at Eastern Connecticut State University and the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford, where he taught both college- and graduate-level courses.

Richard was a man of tremendous curiosity who loved learning and “soaking up life.” He was a brilliant and logical thinker, but he was equally known for his warmth, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. His timing was impeccable, and making people laugh was one of his greatest gifts.

Richard was deeply generous with his time and cared about helping others. He was a member of Beth David Synagogue for 30 years, served on its board, and could always be counted on to volunteer, help with fundraisers, and lend a hand whenever he was needed.

Richard’s interests reflected his curiosity and his appreciation for life. He loved jazz music and photography, particularly photographing jazz musicians. He developed his own film in a home photography lab. He loved playing squash, skiing, riding his bike, and playing cards with his buddies, and he was a devoted UConn basketball and football fan, always ready to say, “Go Huskies!”

Richard will be remembered for living a life of service, learning, friendship, and love. He will especially be remembered by Sandy for his sense of humor and how much he made her laugh. He left an enduring mark on the many people fortunate enough to know him.

Richard’s family thanks all of the caring staff at Mira Vie at Fanwood and Grace Hospice Healthcare Services for their dedication, support, and care for Richard.

A graveside ceremony will take place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Teferes Israel Memorial Park, 80 Wolcott Road, East Granby, Connecticut 06026.
