Raymond Wice

Raymond Wice, 94, of Farmington, passed away Tuesday, (March 5), at UCONN Medical Center with loving family by his side. He leaves his wife Charlotte Levy Wice to whom he was married for 72 wonderful years. Ray was the son of Suzie Katz Wice and Benjamin Wice; and leaves two brothers, Marshall (Maish) and Sumner (Jackie) Wice, his son Michael and Carole Wice of Bloomfield; and daughters Nance Wice of Newington and Joy and Joel Barton of Sterling, VA. He had three grandchildren, Daniel, Robert and Samara; and seven great-grandchildren, Michaela, Molly, Olivia, Sophia, Maxwell, Timothy, and Anna. Ray was a 1937 graduate of Weaver High School and was the last living member of that basketball team. He proudly served on the USS Colorado battleship in World War II. He and his brother Jackie operated the Thomas Hooker Coffee Shop, Thompson’s Steak House and the Madison Cafe. He was an avid sports fan, loving UCONN basketball, the Boston Red Sox, and the New York Giants; and sponsored many softball and flag football teams in the Hartford area. In his retirement years, he was a courier for Day Berry and Howard law firm. He was a member of The Hartford Mutual Society and the Emanuel Synagogue Minnionaires. The past five years he enjoyed residing at The Gables of Farmington with Charlotte, playing his Kazoo to the delight of all. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, March 8, at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with burial in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Following services, family and friends are invited to the home of Robert and Alison Wice, 5 Porter Place, Avon.
