Phyllis (Kayser) Opinsky, 80, of West Hartford, Connecticut, died peacefully on Saturday, October 15, 2011. She was the widow of Dr. Jack S. Opinsky, her cherished husband for over 55 years, and the daughter of the late James and Mildred Kayser of New Britain, Connecticut. She was also predeceased by her sister, Rita Kayser Evanier. She was the beloved mother of Martin Opinsky and his wife Kathy of Bristol, CT, Heidi Opinsky Schachter and her husband Alan of Redding, CT and Jami Opinsky Goldman and her husband Richard of Old Greenwich, CT. She was the cherished grandmother of Alexis and Justin Schachter and Samantha and Matthew Goldman. Phyllis was born in Hartford on December 21st, 1930, and raised in the area. She graduated from Weaver High School and later The University of Connecticut and continued onto The UCONN School of Nursing. She was a school nurse in both the private and public school systems in West Hartford, CT. She was an accomplished artist and was active in politics on both the local and national levels. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her smile and kind spirit wil be missed by all those who were lucky to have known her. Funeral services will be held Monday October 17, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford,CT. Interment will follow in Beth Alom Cemetary, 48 Allen Street in New Britain,CT. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at her son and daughter-in-law’s home, 1 Skyview Terrace in Bristol, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jack and Phyllis Opinsky Scholarship Fund at the University of Connecticut School of Dentistry, Farmington CT.
