Phyllis (Rosenberg) Lappen; 87 1/2 years of age, of Mallard Dr., Avon, formerly of West Hartford, died Wednesday, April 4th after a long illness as a patient in Hartford Hospital. She was the widow of Seymour S. Lappen who died in November 2008. Born in Lawrence, MA, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mabel (Gray) Rosenberg. She graduated from the Beth Israel School of Nursing. Phyllis co-owned with her husband a four-generation family business, Lappen’s Hearth and Home. She was a member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford for over 55 years and a life long member of Hadassah. To know Phyllis is to know someone who lived life to its fullest. She was passionately committed to her family and friends. Her zest for life, family, and friends left an imprint in everyone she touched. As the consummate student, she loved the arts, theater, and taking continuing education courses of all kinds. She leaves her son, Stan Lappen and his wife Renata of Walnut Creek, CA; her daughter, Lauren A. Flitt and her husband Howard of Framingham, MA; four grandchildren, Michelle Vogelhut and her husband Josh, Sara B. Lappen, Leah B. Gallagher and her husband Matthew and Adena L. Flitt; and her great-granddaughter, Emma P. Vogelhut. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 9th in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at The Farmington Woods Club House, Avon.
