Paul 'Pj' (J.) Pomerantz

Paul J. PJ’ Pomerantz, 91 years of age, of Bloomfield, formerly of West Hartford, died peacefully Friday, January 15, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Trudy (Hurwitz) Pomerantz. Born January 27, 1918 in Hartford, CT, son of Louis and Yetta Pomerantz, he was predeceased by his brother, William and his twin sister, Ethel. He was a graduate of Weaver High School and served overseas in WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army. Paul had a long and successful career in commercial real estate. He was active in the Democratic party as a State Central Committeeman and served on the State Board of Appeals. A former member of Cliffside and then Tumblebrook Country Clubs, he enjoyed playing golf and cards. He was an avid Red Sox fan and most of all, enjoyed spending time with his family. Besides his wife of 61 years, Trudy, he leaves his two daughters, Leesa Sonnichsen and her husband Robert of Madison, CT, and Deborah Kain and her husband Jay of Great Barrington, MA; and his grandchildren, Tyler and Brittany Sonnichsen, and Alex, Jennifer and Caroline Kain of whom he was most proud. He will remain forever in their hearts. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. Relatives and friends may call at the Pomerantz home on Monday following the interment through Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
