Neil Sokoloff

Neil M. Sokoloff of West Hartford died Tuesday, (February 9, 2010) at Hartford Hospital. Born in the Bronx, NY, on May 4, 1939, the son of Mollie (Hutner) Sokoloff of West Hartford and the late Bernard Sokoloff, he graduated from Weaver High School and the University of Hartford. He obtained his J.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. After 35 years at Aetna, he retired as Divisional Compliance Officer. Besides his beloved wife, Beverly (Horn) Sokoloff, he leaves a stepdaughter, Nancy (Samuels) Blacksin and her husband, Jeffrey, of Acton, MA, as well as a stepson, David Samuels, of Washington, DC, his fiancé Tenley Carp, and David’s three children, the light of Neil’s life, Brandon, Eric, and Eliana Samuels. Neil was particularly grateful for the opportunity to visit all 50 states and see the beauty in each one during his lifetime, along with several countries and historic cities around the globe. A longtime member of Beth Hillel Synagogue, Bloomfield, Neil was a volunteer at The Hebrew Home & Hospital, where for many years he presented a weekly program of Jewish and Yiddish music to its residents. His passions for music, sports, and Jewish history found their way into his charitable actions. Neil enjoyed 15 years of contented retirement with his wife Beverly. Above all, Neil was a mensch. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Sokoloff, D.P.M., of Guilford, his wife Judith, and their two sons. Funeral services were private.
