Dr. Nathaniel (Neal) Richard Kaplan, 79, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 11th, 2026. Born in Port Jervis, New York, he was a graduate of Yale University and SUNY Downstate Medical School. Neal was preceded in death by parents Dr. Louis and Bertha Kaplan, née Weirnikoff. He is survived by his brother Samuel Kaplan and his wife Gloria, and his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Kaplan, née Nahmias; he had two children: Lowell Kaplan and his wife Michelle, and his daughter Jennifer Buckley, née Kaplan and her husband Chris, as well as three granddaughters: Jade Buckley, Ella Kaplan, and Willow Kaplan.
As quiet as he was, Neal had a dry wit that sometimes took people by surprise. He enjoyed foreign and domestic travel, especially New Orleans, LA. He played piano beautifully, was an enthusiastic duplicate bridge player, a loyal Red Sox fan, an avid reader, and was quite the sesquipedalian.
There will be a Celebration of Neal’s Life on Sunday, Aug 16th, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Kaplan’s home on 35 Gooseberry Dr, Suffield Ct.
The family is appreciative of the wonderful care he received at Suffield by the River, Memory Care, where his sense of humor remained undiminished.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter. 10 Executive Dr Ste. 202, Farmington CT, 06032.
