Nathan (G.) Schwartz

Nathan ‘Nat’ G. Schwartz, of Bloomfield died Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Harry and Rebecca (Furst) Schwartz. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Samuel Schwartz of New York, NY, Charles Schwartz of Swansee, MA, and Hyman Schwartz of Providence, RI. Nat is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose (Weiss) Schwartz; and his son, Robert B. Schwartz of West Hartford. He also four nieces, Elaine of NY, Marion of CA, Janice of Marblehead, MA, and Marion of Arlington, MA; and a nephew, Randy Schwartz of Wells, ME. Nat was a former member of the Bloomfield Rotarian and Lions Clubs. At the time of his passing, he was also a member of the West Hartford Regents, the Wintonbury Historical Society, the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, and Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield. He was an ardent golfer and bridge player. He was a former member of Cliffside, Tower Ridge and Tumble Brook Country Clubs. Nat was a volunteer at several soup kitchens and also at the Hebrew Home & Hospital. He attended Bryant College in Providence, RI. In 1942 he left to join the Army. While in the Army, he was stationed in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. Upon his discharge, Nat returned and opened several record shops in Fall River, MA. In 1951 after his marriage to Rose, they relocated to Bloomfield, where Nat purchased the Bloomfield Hardware Store. He also established Naro Realty through which he developed several homes in Bloomfield and he owned many real estate properties. He retired from the Hardware Store in 1969, and continued to expand Naro Realty. He was an organizer and director of the Vernon Bank. He will be missed by his many friends and family. Funeral services will held at 10:30am on Friday, June 15, 2012 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Gary Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Hillel Synagogue Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., East Granby. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at his home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nat’s favorite charity The Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance Fund, 785 Park Ave., Bloomfield 06002.
