Naomi (Dunn) Eichenbaum

Dr. Naomi A. (Dunn) Eichenbaum, 98 years of age, of Murphy, NC, formerly of New Britain, CT, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016. She was the widow of Dr. Irving W. Eichenbaum. Born in New Britain, CT, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Rose (Kallinsky) Dunn. Naomi was awarded her D.D.S. from University of Maryland in 1939 graduating at the top of her class. She and her husband, Irving set up a pediatric dental practice in New Britain where they practiced for 50 years, retiring in 1995. Naomi, along with Irving, was a founding member of the Connecticut Society of Dentistry for Children. Together they were pioneers in the new field of Children’s Dentistry. They worked to lessen their patient’s anxiety by creating a child friendly environment in their office and using new techniques to ease the child’s worries during dental visits. They specialized in treating children with special needs both in their office and at New Britain General Hospital. They were nationally and internationally recognized for their many research articles including a study exploring children’s anxiety using pre and post dental treatment drawings. Naomi was a founding member of the New Britain Chapter of Hadassah. She held many offices in the New Britain Chapter of Hadassah including President. She is survived by her children, Dr. Daniel M. Eichenbaum and his wife Rhonda of Murphy, NC, Deborah Rose O’Neal and her husband John of Ventura, CA, Dr. Jesse D. Eichenbaum and his wife Roberta of Matthews, NC, and Rachel S. Eichenbaum of Dover, NH; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen Street, New Britain with Rabbi Rosen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hadassah: 40 Wall St., New York, New York, 10005. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
