Muriel ‘Marcia’ Joyce (Newman) Slotnick, 94 years of age, of West Hartford, CT died Monday August 3, 2026. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jennie (Levin) Newman. She graduated from Weaver High School in Hartford, CT and went on to earn an art degree from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, MA. Marcia was an active member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford, CT., where she chaired and participated in a variety of committees. An avid artist, she enjoyed creating artwork utilizing a variety of modalities. Her art expertise spilled over into her committee work and she chaired the Temple’s annual art show for many, many years, meeting with artists and curating pieces for the show. She also chaired and worked on the annual veteran’s program over the years, was an active member of the Chai Society and held leadership roles in the Temple Sisterhood. Her other loves included listening to musicals and enjoying the beach. Most important to Marcia was being surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert Slotnick. She leaves behind her children, Lewis A. Slotnick and his wife Jamie of Burlington, CT, Betsy Slotnick Rubinstein and her husband Reed of Silver Spring, MD; her grandchildren, Samuel J. Slotnick, Alyssa J. Slotnick and her partner Owen Cobey, David J. Rubinstein and his wife Yael, Aaron J. Rubinstein and his wife Lauren, and Joseph D. Rubinstein and his wife Yotvat; and eight great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sisters Carolyn Zaretsky and Ruth Joseph and leaves behind several nieces, a nephew and two great nieces. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday August 5th at Beth El Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon, CT with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Shiva will be observed at her home.
