OPINSKY, Morton Opinsky, M.D., 90 years of age, of Hartford, formerly of West Hartford, died Monday, March 14, 2011. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Morris W. and Edith (Lubin) Opinsky. He was a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps during World War II. He graduated from Georgetown University and Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC in 1946. He did his residency at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY and practiced surgery at the former Mt. Sinai Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. He was a gifted surgeon and teacher and helped people in all walks of life. Even after retiring from active practice, he maintained a rigorous regimen of study and investigation into the advanced practices of modern medicine. He was admired by all. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Lorraine (Unger) Opinsky. He leaves his wife, Miriam ‘Mimi’ (Freiman) Opinsky; his children, James M. Opinsky and his wife Amanda of New York, NY, and Joanne Dashevsky and her husband Roman of Brooklyn, NY; step-children, Nancy Coleman and her husband Drew of East Hampton, CT and Joanne Freiman of West Hartford; grandchildren, Nicholas Opinsky, Maximilian Dashevsky, Benjamin Dashevsky, Jarret Coleman, and Allison Coleman; and his sister-in-law, Phyllis K. Opinsky of West Hartford. He was the brother of the late Jack S. Opinsky, D.D.S., Irene and David Zadek, and Philip and Rosalyn Opinsky. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Affleck St., Hartford. Memorial contributions should be sent to “St. Francis Foundation” at 95 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105 and will be directed to the General Surgery Residency Program. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
