Morton (W.) Cohen

Morton W. Cohen, 83 years of age, of Hamden, formerly of West Hartford died Tuesday, October 27, 2009. He was the husband of the late Sara (Keyser) Cohen. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Abraham and Ida (Weisman) Cohen. Morton was a US Army veteran of World War II. He graduated from the Hilliard College School of Business in Hartford. He was an entrepreneur at the former Westbar Market in Hartford, and also associated with Grand Union, the former Kingswood Market, and Halls Market. He was a past president of the Beth Jacob Society in West Hartford and treasurer of the South End Mutual Benefits Association. He leaves his children, Robert D. Cohen and his wife Maryann of Emerson, NJ, Bruce Cohen and his wife Mary-Ellen of West Hartford, and Helene Civitello and her husband Guy of North Haven; nine grandchildren, Stacey Spada and her husband Sebastian, Scott Fisher and his wife Karen, Kimberly Aparo and her husband Lino, Debra Spada and her husband Bert, Ashley Cohen, Christina Cohen, Meghan Cohen, Heather Cohen, and Courtney Cohen; eleven great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Steven Fisher of Levittown, LI, NY; and a brother, Arthur Cohen and his wife Irene of Old Lyme and Florida. He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Fisher, a son-in-law, John Savo, and by a brother, Jacob M. Jake’ Cohen. He also leaves a dear friend, Bea Gold of Old Lyme. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in the Beth Jacob Society Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor?s choice.
