Miriam Edelstein, 85, of Abrahms Boulevard, West Hartford, passed away on Tuesday (July 21, 2009) in the presence of family and close friends, surrounded with love. Miriam grew up in Boston and settled in Hartford when she married Samuel Edelstein. She leaves behind three children, Marcia Kranc and her husband Samuel of Colchester, Rachel Edelstein-Penn and her partner Leslie Hamilton-Penn of Providence, RI, and Jay Edelstein of West Hartford. She also leaves behind the loves of her life, her eight grandchildren; Samuel, Nathan, Hillary, Jared, Alyssa, Shelby, Angela, and Samantha. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on TODAY, Thursday, July 23, at Weinstein Mortuary at 640 Farmington Avenue in Hartford. Immediately following the burial at the Emanuel Cemetery in Wethersfield, Shiva will be observed at her son’s house at 11 King Edward Road, West Hartford, on Thursday and continuing through Friday until 12 Noon. Shiva will resume Sunday at 12 Noon at 11 King Edward Rd., and will also be observed in Providence at Rachel’s home beginning with a 7 p.m. minyan Sunday, with minyans being held every night through Wednesday. Donations may be made to the Emanuel Synagogue or the Autism Society of America.
