Milton Markowitz, Md

Milton Markowitz, MD, 87, of West Hartford, CT, , formerly of Baltimore, MD, husband of Selma, passed away on July 7, 2005 in Farmington, CT. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 6, 1918, he was the son of the late Morris David and Ida Markowitz. Dr. Markowitz was raised in Liberty, NY. He attended college and medical school at Syracuse University. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. A life-long pediatrician, he was Associate Professor at John Hopkins University School of Medicine, and then the first Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, 1969-1983, and subsequently Associate Dean for Medical Student Affairs, 1983-1992, at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He was the husband of Selma for 60 years, the father of David, Martha, Steven, and Alice, the grandfather of Seth, Morgan, Jonah, Ben, and Nathaniel, as well as the great grandfather of Alexandra. He died in contentment, having fulfilled and been wholeheartedly fulfilled by his family, close friends, the many children he helped, the generations of physicians he trained, and his innumerable good deeds in life. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 10, at 1:00 pm in the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT with Rabbi Raphael Friedman officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. The family will receive relatives and friends, also at the Emanuel Synagogue, at 3:30 pm Sunday, following the interment.
