Milton (G.) Cohen

Milton ‘Milt’ G. Cohen, 86 years of age, of Boynton Beach, Fl, died June 30, 2011. He was the husband of Mildred ‘Milly’ (Levine) Cohen. Born in Coney Island, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Elias) Cohen. Milt met the love of his life Milly there. Milt was 17 and Milly was 14. They married in 1946 while Milt was on leave from the Army where he proudly served his country in World War II. Returning from the war, Milt and Milly moved to Beach Haven, Brooklyn and had two children, David Cohen who predeceased him and Joyce Leibert of West Hartford. Milt was a partner in his family manufacturing and wholesale neckwear business, Carl Neckwear, Co., Manhattan, NY. His father Joseph had started the business in the1930’s. He enjoyed working with his dad and brothers, Carl and Arthur. Milt and Milly moved to Flushing, NY in 1953 where they raised their family. After his children graduated high school, Milly and Milt moved to New Jersey. The business had expanded and he was charged with operating another manufacturing plant. After his early retirement at the age of 53, Milt and Milly moved to Avon, to be close to their grandchildren; then on to Florida as snowbirds and eventually full time residents for well over a decade. At the age of 13 Milt started collecting coins, a lifelong hobby. Milt enjoyed collecting rare and scarce coins especially mint errors. He was a life member of the American Numismatic Association and the American Israel Numismatic Association, a member of The Long Island Coin Club and The Numismatic Error Collectors Association. Milt often was the winner for his exhibits at the Grand Central Coin Convention each year. Milt served as a consultant to the mint error section of Scott’s Encyclopedia of United States Coins. He loved spending time with his family who loved and respected him. Besides his wife of 65 years, Milt is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Richard Leibert of West Hartford, their children, Deborah Kritzman and her husband A.J. of West Hartford, Sarah Leibert of Bloomfield, and Cheryl Leibert of Los Angeles, CA; three great-grandchildren, Sally, Sophie and Sadie Kritzman; and many nieces and nephews. Milt was predeceased by his brothers Carl Cohen and Arthur Cohen and sisters Rita Fight and Eleanor Truehaft. The family wishes to thank the Doctors and staff at Hebrew Health Care for their compassion, caring and support. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 3rd, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, with Rabbi Ilana Garber officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Extension, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Neonatal Intensive Care Department at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, Connecticut 06106.
