Melvin Stoner, 81 years of age, of Bloomfield, formerly of West Hartford, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in New London, he was the son of the late David and Dorothy (Goldstein) Stoner. Mel graduated from the University of Connecticut and from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He was a founder of Stoner, Gross, Attorneys at Law and became a partner in Osborne and Stoner in Farmington. He was also involved in the real estate industry. He was a member of the Hartford County Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association. He is survived by his loving wife, Jill Ruffkess Stoner, his beloved children: Lizabeth and David Stoner of West Hartford, Alyce Stoner of West Hartford, I. Charlton and Donna Stoner of Miami Beach, FL, Marc and Katie Stoner of Coconut Grove, FL, Dorie and Seth Cohen of Upper Saddle River, NJ, and Wendy Freed of West Hartford; his grandchildren: Dina, Benjamin, Alexander, and Nellie Stoner, Matthew, Joshua and Abigail Cohen, and Marissa and Alexandra Freed, all of whom he loved and adored. He also leaves his sister Leona Oberstein and her husband Dr. Morton Oberstein of Boynton Beach, FL. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Edith Grossman, and was pre-deceased by his father-in-law, Herman Grossman. Mel was the devoted husband of the late Audrey (Lubin) Stoner. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. A memorial period will be observed at his home: 12 High Wood Rd., Bloomfield, Wednesday, following the interment, through Thursday evening.
