Maxine ((Rosenthal)) Moncini

d. January 1, 1970

Maxine Moncini, 63 of Southington passed away on April 18, 2018 after a courageous eight month fight with small cell lung cancer. Max was born on October 27, 1954 in West Hartford, CT and was the daughter of Ben and Margie Rosenthal. She is survived by her husband Raymond Moncini and Ray’s mother Mary Moncini of Monessen, PA and Ray’s sisters Marinell Brettell (Richard) of Jacksonville, FL and Roslyn Munsch (William) of Pittsburgh, PA and their families. Soon after Maxine graduated from Conard High School, she began her 30 year career in hotel management rising from desk clerk to assistant general manager. She worked for Hilton, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn and other local properties throughout her career. She was extraordinary for her combination of sparkling personality and work ethic and was always viewed as a critical asset. And on January 11, 1982 she met Ray when he relocated to Connecticut while she worked at the Holiday Inn in Plainville. After the hotel business, Max decided to pursue her passion and love for animals and worked as a veterinary technician at Southington Veterinary Associates. She was happy every day and came home telling stories of the latest recalcitrant pug or shy bulldog. She also was very involved and the key to success to Ray’s career with Otis Elevator and Carrier Corporation. She loved her family and was a fierce advocate when she believed that anyone was taking advantage of someone she loved. She had a particularly close relationship with her mother Margie, in many ways they were more like sisters always planning some new, fun adventure. When Margie became ill in the last few years of her life, Maxine redefined the role of caregiver in the love and support she gave to her mom. She loved the six dogs that she and Ray adopted over their 34 year marriage and was a doting mother. She was a dancer throughout her life and a very active in various Zumba groups in the last few years. She loved music and really enjoyed summer concerts and listening to the bands from the sixties and seventies. She had the best sense of humor and those sparkling green eyes and 50,000 watt smile would melt any heart and were a window into a gentle and loving soul. She will be missed and our world is diminished in her passing. A very special thanks to the Cancer Center of Central Connecticut and Dr. Jason Chang and his team. Their support through a very difficult eight months was incredible. Each visit, either for treatment or examination, the team demonstrated professionalism, excellence and compassion. Funeral services will be Friday April 20 at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT with Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in the Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery, 51 Jackson St., Avon, CT. Memorial contributions for Maxine may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, any of the many cancer charities or a charity of your choice.
