Mavis June (Diamond) Riner, 84 years of age, of West Hartford, died Monday, (March 18, 2013), with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard B. Riner. Born in Hartford on April 18, 1928, daughter of the late Nathan and Ida (Epstein) Diamond, she lived in Bloomfield and Rocky Hill for many years and worked at CIGNA. June was a scout leader and elementary school librarian. She taught her children to read before they started kindergarten. An avid cook and baker, she was noted for her memorable coffee cake and of course the annual Thanksgiving feast. She enjoyed dancing and overseas travel with her husband, Richard. June was the nanny for her beloved grandson Zach and volunteered with disadvantaged children and disabled adults. June loved animals, especially her many cats, cultivating an abiding love for them among the family. June leaves her children, Steven Elovich, Liza Seefahrt, Peter Elovich, and Nancy Wilder of Connecticut, Randy Elovich and wife Patty of Minnesota; grandchildren Dr. Siara Z. Elovich of Minnesota, and Zachary Max Stavnezer of New Hampshire; dear friends Susan Treadway and husband Jay Lichtmann; and her cat Monty. June is survived by her brother Jerome Diamond, and was predeceased by brother Irwin Diamond. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating.
