Marvin M. Goodman, D.D.S. ,M.S., 88 years of age, of West Hartford died very peacefully with the dignity he deserved and with his family at his bedside Friday, January 20, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Max and Leah (Lapinsky) Goodman. He graduated from Bucknell University receiving a B.S. degree. He also graduated from The University of Pittsburgh in 1946 receiving a D.D.S. degree and from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor receiving a Masters Degree in Science specializing in pediatric dentistry. He was one of the first pediatric dentists to open a practice in Hartford county. He served in the US Army. Marvin practiced for 59 years, retiring May 1, 2009 due to health reasons. He was on staff at Hartford Hospital, Mt. Sinai Hospital, and CT Childrens Medical Center. He was the Dental Director for many years at the Oak Hill School for the Blind. Marvin was a member of Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, the Kenneth Easlick Dental Society at Ann Arbor, the American Dental Association, the CT State Dental Association, the Hartford Dental Society, the CT Society for Pediatric Dentist, and the American Society of Dentistry for Children. For many years, Marvin volunteered his time and services to those in need. He leaves his wife, Glenda (Cunningham) Goodman; his daughters, Ellen M. Goodman of West Hartford, Marsha C. Goodman of Virginia, Janet G. Harrison and her husband Peter of Saco, ME, and Daryl A. Goodman of Marlborough; his grandchildren, Alessandra and Anthony De Gregorio, and Adam and Jordana Harrison; his brother Dr. Arnold O. Goodman of Compton, NH; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nanette Lev Goodman. His family wishes to express their appreciation to his doctors and caregivers. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Steven Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. A memorial period will be observed at his home Sunday following the interment and Monday 1:00-4:00 PM.
