Mark Gurtman, 89 years of age, of West Hartford, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Born on March 27, 1923 in Poland, he was the son of the late Henry and Dora Gurtman. Mark was a Holocaust Survivor and a veteran of World War II. He worked in the aerospace industry and designed components for the Gemini and Apollo missions. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel of West Hartford. He leaves his wife, Gisella (Langer) Gurtman; his daughter, Dr. Frances Gurtman and her husband Richard Goldberg of Avon; his son, Dr. Michael Gurtman and his wife Lois Lourie of Highland Park, IL; and four grandchildren: Benjamin and Daniel Goldberg, and Joel and Samuel Gurtman. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon. A memorial period will be observed at the home of his daughter on Thursday following the interment and Saturday evening.
